CHÁRTA RESIDENCE
"Where books shape spaces"
Project: Chárta Residence, Product Design
Location: Pano Deftera | Nicosia
Year: In-progress
Chárta is a private residence organized around books. Here, exposed concrete beams and slabs form a strict, tactile structure — a grid both literal and conceptual — while volumes of wood soften its geometry with warmth and familiarity. The design begins not with decoration, but with material honesty. Concrete is left bare, its surface retaining the memory of its making, while custom joinery integrates bookshelves into the architecture itself.
The house is composed like a library — not a quiet one of silence, but one of lived-in stillness. Books do not fill the space, they define it. Every threshold is framed by reading, every axis concludes in paper. Glimpses of red spines, linen covers, aged jackets appear between shadows and daylight. Chárta takes its name from the ancient word for paper, acknowledging the fragile yet enduring medium of memory. This is a place of pause — where material, light, and text exist in quiet conversation.
